Privacy policy

MachineCalcs (machinecalcs.com) is a free collection of engineering calculators and reference pages. This page explains what the site collects, the cookies that analytics and advertising use, and the choices you have.

Your calculator inputs stay in your browser

Calculations run in your browser. The dimensions, loads and other values you enter are not sent to our servers or to analytics. If you copy a share link, those values are written into the link itself, so anyone you send it to can see them.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to learn which pages and tools are useful. It sets first-party cookies and records things such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and coarse actions like copying a result or switching units. We do not send your input values, results or search text. Google signals and ad-personalisation signals are switched off in our analytics tag. You can block Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or your browser's cookie settings.

Advertising

MachineCalcs may show ads served by Google AdSense. When ads are shown:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.

Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Ads are supplied by Google and its partners; we don't choose individual ads or sell your personal information.

Helpful votes

The "helpful" buttons store only running totals per page. To stop automated vote flooding, a one-way hash of your IP address is kept for about a minute and then deleted automatically.

Preferences on your device

Your light/dark theme and metric/imperial choice are saved in your browser's local storage so the next page opens the same way. They stay on your device and are never sent to us.

No accounts

MachineCalcs has no sign-up or login, so we hold no names, email addresses or passwords for visitors.

Hosting and security

The site is delivered by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address and request details to serve pages and protect the site from abuse, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Email

If you write to hello@machinecalcs.com, we receive your address and message and use them only to reply and to act on what you reported.

Children

MachineCalcs is written for engineers, technicians and students. It is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes and questions

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Questions or requests about your data go to hello@machinecalcs.com (the contact page lists what to include). The site's terms of use are on the terms page.
