How to use this calculator
- Enter stall speed. Use the relevant 1g stall speed.
- Pick a category. Choose normal, utility, acrobatic or custom.
- Enter custom n if needed. Use approved aircraft data for custom values.
- Read estimated Va. The calculator applies the square-root load-factor relation.
How it works
The calculator chooses a category load factor, then applies Va = Vs x sqrt(n).
Use it with custom Va from load factor, corner speed and Va weight table.
Worked example
Verified against the live calculator
A 50 kt stall speed in the normal-category 3.8 g screen gives 50 x sqrt(3.8) = 97.5 kt.
Frequently asked questions
What category load factors are included?
The defaults are common positive limit load factors: normal 3.8 g, utility 4.4 g and acrobatic 6.0 g.
Are these values universal?
No. Verify the aircraft type, certification basis and approved limitations.
How is Va calculated?
The calculator uses Va = Vs x sqrt(n).
When should I use custom?
Use custom when the approved data gives a different positive limit load factor.
Method & assumptions
- Uses common category values for quick screening, plus a custom input.
- Does not replace aircraft-specific published maneuvering speeds, weight adjustments or limitations.
