Board foot formula
bd ft = thickness_in * width_in * length_ft / 12
Thickness multipliers
- 4/4: multiply the 1-inch chart row by 1.00.
- 5/4: multiply by 1.25 before waste.
- 6/4: multiply by 1.50 before waste.
- 8/4: multiply by 2.00 before waste.
Buying lumber
Add waste for kerf, defects, end trimming, grain selection and matching. Price checks should use the actual seller unit and grade.
