Grounding Conductor Size Calculator

Rating or setting of the upstream overcurrent device protecting the circuit. If it is between table rows, the next higher row is used.
A
Select the equipment grounding conductor material column.
Installed or proposed wire-type equipment grounding conductor size in each raceway.
Use 100% when ungrounded conductors are not upsized. If phase conductors are doubled in circular-mil area for voltage drop, enter 200%.
%
For parallel raceways, each raceway usually needs a full-sized EGC based on the circuit OCPD. This does not split one EGC across raceways.

  • This page sizes wire-type equipment grounding conductors from the upstream breaker or fuse rating. It is not a grounding electrode conductor sizing tool.
  • If the ungrounded conductors are increased in circular-mil area for voltage drop or other reasons, the EGC is screened with the same proportional increase.
  • Final work still depends on the adopted electrical code edition, local amendments, raceway/cable wiring method, conductor material restrictions, equipment listing, parallel-run rules and AHJ interpretation.
