Diversity Factor Cooling Load Calculator

Compute the factor from a known coincident block, or apply a factor to a connected sum.
Each zone's individual peak cooling load added together (non-coincident).
Btu/h
The building's simultaneous peak — from a coincident load calculation or trend data.

Zone equipment is still sized to each zone peak — diversity applies to the central plant and mains only.

Block ÷ sum of peaks; ≤ 1 by definition.

  • Diversity exists because zones peak at different hours (east glass in the morning, west in the afternoon, interior at occupancy). Plant and mains are sized to the coincident block; terminal units to their own zone peaks.
  • The DF VALUE must come from a coincident load calculation (hour-by-hour), trend data or documented experience for the building type — this page does the arithmetic, not the judgment.
  • Do not stack diversity with safety factors invisibly: state both explicitly or sizing reviews become archaeology.
  • Heating diversity behaves differently (morning warm-up can be nearly coincident) — be careful borrowing cooling DFs.
