Belleville Washer Load Calculator

Disc outside diameter. Defaults follow the DIN 2093 A 40 proportions.
mm
Disc bore diameter. Must be smaller than the outside diameter.
mm
Material thickness. Discs with machined contact flats (DIN 2093 t > 6 mm, reduced t′) are not modeled here.
mm
Unloaded overall height of one disc. The cone height is h0 = l0 - t.
mm
Axial deflection of a single disc at the working point. DIN 2093 characteristics are tabulated at s = 0.75 h0.
mm
Same-direction nested discs per packet. Multiplies force.
Alternating-direction packets in the stack. Multiplies travel.
DIN 2092 uses E = 206,000 N/mm² for standard spring steels (e.g. 51CrV4). Enter supplier data for stainless or nickel alloys.
GPa
Poisson ratio of the disc material. DIN 2092 uses 0.3 for spring steel.

Load at deflection(F(s))
6,500N
Pass

Within the DIN 2093 customary 75% utilization for static dimensioning.

Almen-Laszlo single-disc load at the entered deflection.

Also computed

Load at flat(F(h0))8,456N

Load when the disc is pressed flat, s = h0.

Rate at working point(dF/ds)8,784N/mm

Slope of the F-s curve at the working point; disc springs are non-linear, so quote loads at deflections, not a single rate.

Local slope of the non-linear characteristic at s.

Stress at OM(σOM)Pass1,196MPa

OM stress is in the customary set-resistant band for standard spring steels.

Compressive stress at the center of rotation; DIN 2093 uses it for the permanent-set check.

Edge stress, point I(σI)2,086MPa

Reported as magnitude; compressive at the upper inner edge.

Compressive stress at the upper inner edge.

Stack load(n·F)6,500N

Stack travel(i·s)0.675mm

Method notes 3 notes
  • Method: DIN 2092 (Almen-Laszlo) for discs without contact flats, t′ = t. DIN 2093 series 3 discs (t > 6 mm) with machined bearing flats need the reduced-thickness formulation.
  • Stack relations neglect friction. Parallel layers raise apparent load and hysteresis (roughly 2-3% per layer interface in catalogs); series stacks need guiding.
  • Tensile edge stresses (points II and III) that govern fatigue life are not computed here — use the supplier S-N data for cyclic applications.
